Belligerent

After all the blood has
Trickled down,
I saw his face
Bitter and brutal.

‘I was the knight’
Says he, ‘the chosen one
The one chosen to fight the battle
That ceased a long while back;
My fearless heart,
My brandishing blade,
My life ready to be
Given up
For a nobler cause,
All were but pawns of a game,
Of death and deception played
By liars and assassins.’

I remove my eyes off him,
Of the broken mirror that is he
And see the broken man
Depart as darkness.
