The Altruist

So altruistic of you to step up
I never thought anyone would do that
For someone as insignificant as me.

For days I cleaned the gun,
Loaded it with cartridges
That could pierce my heart with ease.

I never believed someone would emerge
To take the trouble to finish the job
Taking the misery of performing
The tiresome work for me.

Now when you arrive
To help me out with the tedious job
Of finishing me away,
I, with the heart laden with gratitude,
Could hardly reveal my thankfulness.

I know we would meet,
At the end of the road,
You would apologize to me in contempt,
I would thank you out of gratefulness,
And our path would take turns to end up
All the same.
